Re: Cage ID: narrow barred Liberta

Oh actually, nevermind. The ratsitting thread hasn't been pruned yet  It's a Liberta Pioneer, but the doors are different to the photos google is showing me. Well, here's a reference thread should anyone be searching the forum since there's no other search results on it.

Cage ID: narrow barred Liberta

Does anyone know what this cage is called please? It's made by Liberta, is a decent size for a small group, and has 1cm bars. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/acapae/WP_20160703_16_52_08_Pro_zpsi79id1y7.jpg Door-wise, they're all 13cm ones, but one is on it's own at the top, then there's 3 conj...

Re: Excessive drinking

As said, that sounds pretty normal, especially given the weather if pretty warm right now. However if you've recently noticed a sudden increase, particularly one that doesn't correlate with the weather, then you could easily check it out, since doing so is non-invasive and cheap. diabetes can also c...

It should have a BBD on the side of the pot.

Re: 'edible' perch?

Yeah it's fine. It's basically a calcium/ mineral supplement if they do.

Just bear in mind that you'll probably want to wipe it clean rather than leaving to soak.

Re: Mycoplasma in 2 year old male

Yeah, that's back to the vet for more drugs time; I would ask for another AB to add in, and some steroids (those give the ABs a kick up the bum and get them working sooner). It's also the time to watch hydration levels as you're looking at exactly the same situation for consuming liquids. I would ge...

Re: Rat that won't stop pooping on me

Unfortunately that's just one of those ratty charms that some of them have  My best advice would be to wear a specific hoody or other top for when you're handling them if it bothers you. However one thing that can help is to provide a litter tray during free range time (for poos only, rats prac...

Re: Mycoplasma in 2 year old male

There are two near failsafe ways of getting doxycyline (drug name, Ronaxan is a brand of that) into rats: 1) Mashed banana, mashed avocado, or a mixture of both. Only a little bit on the spoon, add the doxy, mix it up, tell the rat it's a super special treat. Smushing needs to be done fresh per dose...

Re: Eyes smell infected?!

Oh yes of course, ears. That would make much more sense. Too late for me  Ears can smell very bad as a result of an outer ear infection (very different to your normal inner ear infection) even if visually they look absolutely fine. Usually you can pinpoint which ear it is by which side of the h...

Re: Tea tree?

I wouldn't - tea tree really stings and it could cause irritation to the wound, causing her to interfere with it. If you want to bathe anything then saline is usually your safest bet. However if it's been a week and it's been healing fine until today I'd just leave it. Sometimes wounds do open a lit...

Re: Chessington Vet

How close counts as close? Seers Croft is between Crawley and Horsham and is well worth it (albeit pricey). The Judith of the SE, if you will. They're the vets Starlight Trust use. I can't remember the best rodent vet(s) name(s), but I can find out if you'd like.

Re: Falling rat

Furet plusses are fairly low cages, so it won't have been all that far to fall. If you didn't notice anything as badly wrong at the time then she should be fine - rats are pretty robust. Although wheels are great toys for rats and I'd always recommend them, if your girls are really skittish and smal...

Re: Eyes smell infected?!

As with oral meds, I would expect improvement within 5-7 days on ABs. No improvement, indeed active worsening of the symptoms, means they're not working. I've not heard of those eye drops, but there's a few different options, so I'd pop her back to the vet for a follow-up appt.

Re: Some feeding questions

So it seems dry ingredients need to be the main part of the diet, and only the occasional fresh food. I may have been overdoing it with the dandelion, chives, basil, coriander, mint, carrot, peas! Also someone mentioned the sugar in fruit (yes it was dried fruit, but same amount of sugar as fresh) ...
