Joining 2 SRS cages

Hello, It's a little way off as my boys aren't old enough to castrate yet, but I'd eventually like to introduce my bucks to my does and have my SRS cages joined side-by-side like those I've seen on the Mix and Match Terraces thread (here: http://www.fancyratsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=20647 ) ...

Re: Pepper has Pneumonia

I think you need to see a different vet, to be blunt. I would advise asking for twice daily baytril (orally) and another antibiotic to address this more aggressively. Nebulising and some time with higher levels of Oxygen will help Pepper cope better and give him more chance to fight this. As an emer...

Re: Peanut Butter?

Peanut butter is delicious, as far as rats are concerned, but it's quite claggy and can stick in their throats. I'd water it right down (it's very sweet and fatty too).

Re: Intro interruption

Thanks so much for all the fabulous advice Jemma. They're all now living in a fully furnished, opened-up SRS. :D Knowing Molly's background, both her health and her history (she had pneumonia and was originally bought from a pet shop far, far too young and rescued in a malnourished state having been...

Re: SRS?

I'm hoping that as I'm getting babies, I can discourage the chewing of the plastic (if they chew it), which will be easier as they'll be young, and should learn quick. Don't assume you can discourage base chewing. My girls destroyed a SRS plastic base in a single night having never chewed it ...

Re: Intro interruption

So, we've had another season and they're all fine (and my nerves are recovering!). They still occasionally put Molly in her place when she tries to nick whatever they're eating but they consistently sleep together in the HUGE nest they all build (using ALL the bedding). The cage now contains a wheel...

Re: Who has had explorer/SRS trays made?

Bumping this thread as I'm joining the 'perspex trays' brigade, although mine will have a metal inner-tray within the base just in case of Molly related incidents (she's a teeny tiny Houdini). I've ordered 200mm backs and sides, and a 150mm front, as my girls have taken to pushing all the substrate ...

Re: Intro interruption

Thanks Jemma - most reassuring. I've been spoiled with Zephyr intros in recent years, which were basically a case of putting Group A in the shower with Group B and watching the lovefest commence with never a cross word. This is a lot squeakier and bouncier... ;) No, sorry if it was a bit misleading ...

Re: Intro interruption

Any advice? I’ll do this as a timeline in case it helps shed any light:- TUESDAY 7th APRIL: Ara needed dental surgery. Opted to send Ara alone to the vets and left Molly and Vela together in Mary cage. Ara collected at 5pm and brought home and put all rats together in the carrier. All piled in toget...

Re: Intro interruption

Thanks Jemma.
I'll postpone 'til Tuesday to give then more uninterrupted bonding time and let Ara's sniffles settle.
Ara is eating quite happily - they're just starting to get long. She came to me with a history of dental issues so we're well on top of them.
They're all asleep in a pile now. :hearts:

Intro interruption

I'm in the process of introducing a 14 week old rescue doe to two 5 month old girls. I'm keeping my eyes open for same age company for 14 week old, of course, but the rescue felt that my 5 month old girls were the best option for her as they were the youngest rats they'd recently homed. Slightly too...

Pooing onto the plastic

My two rescue girls Ara and Vela have decided that, despite being totally litter trained, they'd rather poo onto bare plastic than in the litter itself. Basically, they're digging holes in their litter trays and pooing directly onto the plastic rather than onto the litter itself. I have two litter t...

Re: Discussions relating to Hantavirus *Poll Added 6th April

What then about those who did face their fears of blood tests, cancel plans, swap work shifts, spend savings travelling etc.... Does the fact that they felt the need to do so, for the good of the fancy sway results and ethics of the tests? No one went because they love giving blood I'm sure ... Sur...
