Re: Spot-like lump on rex buck's back

Not an expert, but possibly a cyst? We've dealt with a couple and they've felt almost like a dried pea under the skin and were around the same size as one too. I would keep an eye on it for now and see if it gets any bigger than pea sized, in which case it could be an abscess. Maybe someone else wi...

Spot-like lump on rex buck's back

Hi all. I've just found a small, spot (as in pimple/black head) -like lump on my rex buck Derry' s back. It's about the size of a small lump and very hard, and is located in the centre of his back - I actually thought it was part of his spine at first, but upon further inspection, it's definitely a ...

Introducing 5 Month Olds to 20 Month Old Bucks

Hi guys, I've recently been looking out to introduce some friends to my current boys, as Sylvester hasn't been in the best of shape recently (see this post for more info), and Murphy needs some more energetic company. I've been having a look about, and I can't seem to find any rats near myself! Most...

Re: More Prominent Spine in 19 Month Old Buck

Haha, I'm the exact same with Sylvester! And I will do, :D So, I took Vesti to the vet (back on the 24th of November), and he said he's pretty much in perfect health...aside from getting old, and the muscle degeneration. He suggested putting him on metacam twice a day, because he's probably a wee so...

Re: More Prominent Spine in 19 Month Old Buck

So I came home and weighed Vesti and I probably was just overreacting and adjusting to him being bonier, because he's actually fatter than ever
Very active and peppy tonight as well, so good signs!

Re: More Prominent Spine in 19 Month Old Buck

Thank you for responding! After reading your message I'm feeling a lot more hopeful that it is just old age and he'll be fine. I'll definitely see about getting them on a kidney friendly diet and take a look into Senior Aid! I probably will book him into the vet fairly soon though, because last nigh...

More Prominent Spine in 19 Month Old Buck

Hi guys, So Sylvester and Murphy are getting older now, and are roughly 19 months at this point. These guys are my first rats, so I'm not sure if this is just an age thing or if I'm right to be concerned. Lately I've noticed that Sylvester seems a lot more, well, bonier than usual, particularly his ...

Re: Bucks fighting - causing scratches/scabs

Just an update - I gave Murphy some beaphar spot on ointment, and everyone's had an olive oil rub, and they're all seeming so much better already! No scratching, and best of all, no more random wounds on Murphy! Thanks again Helzie - if you hadn't raised the possibility of mites I probably would hav...

Re: Bucks fighting - causing scratches/scabs

Yeah, he is the smallest of the bunch, so that might be why only he's affected. I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. Thanks again for the advice!

Re: Bucks fighting - causing scratches/scabs

Thank you so much for replying! I had considered mites, but put it aside since the vet never mentioned anything, and the other rats weren't displaying any signs. It does seem likely though, based on the frequency of the scars and their location... If I treat Murphy for mites, should I treat the othe...

Re: Bucks fighting - causing scratches/scabs

Woke up this morning and Murphy has more wounds on him, around his neck and chin! As usual, all of them are acting normal this morning - I don't know what to do! I'm not sure who's instigating - I actually suspect it might be Murphy (hence why his wounds are in 'defensive' areas), but because Garfi ...

Bucks fighting - causing scratches/scabs

Hi guys. Making this topic in a more suitable thread. Sorry for the many posts recently - I'm a very paranoid rat mum right now. (Admins feel free to delete my topic in the Health thread if you think they're too similar.) I have 3 bucks, all brothers, about 6 and a half months old. Up until very rec...

Re: Rat - One eye slightly more swollen than the other

After reading some posts on neutering, I feel I should note that while Garfi and Murphy have fought, it has never seemed incredibly aggressive - mostly loud squeaks and standing on their hind legs and boxing - I've never noticed any wounds being inflicted, though it appears it is happening. Aside fr...

Re: Rat - One eye slightly more swollen than the other

Okay, so I've been observing Murphy over the last few days, and the swelling does appear to have gone down. Well, it hasn't gotten any worse anyway, and I'm actually beginning to wonder if it's in fact a side effect of him fighting with Garfunkel. I've noticed them fighting more aggressively over th...

Rat - One eye slightly more swollen than the other

Hi guys. Sorry it's been a while since my last post. I'm in need of some advice and support as last night I noticed that one of Murphy's eyes has become bigger than the other. It's only a slight difference, but it's made me paranoid so I took him to the vet today. She's not sure what it is - it coul...
