Is catnip safe for rats?

I've searched on the internet, but there appears to be conflicting answers. Some people say it's fine, while others say it can have a sedating effect. My rats love little toys that they can hoard and stash around their cage, but a lot of those cat toys have catnip in them so I've avoided them for no...

Re: Please help with awful rat smell!

Same as what others have said and also pee rocks! Which is a smooth flat rock about the size of your palm to put in their litter trays. I've noticed a difference straight away after putting some in my cage. For some reason they just like peeing on them. Also, maybe think of the placement of your lit...

Re: Saline solution

You can find little bottles of saline solution for piercings on amazon :D

EDIT: Ahh I'm so dim, I didn't see the bit about not trusting amazon haha. You can get some from bodyjewelleryshop.com

Re: Don't know what to do about one very scared rat

Thought I'd do a little update: Remember when I said that I thought he'd be a cuddler once he settled in?  Here he is cuddled up on my lap http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa400/MegaPixiie/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpso3r3kooc.jpeg He's doing great. Comes to greet with when I come to the ...

Re: Don't know what to do about one very scared rat

Thanks guys! I'll definitely remove the sputnik then. Makes me feel mean to take it away, but even with the top gone he now just huddles in the corner of his litter tray. But maybe without it his friend will join him there so at least they can snuggle together. I actually had a bit of a breakthrough...

Don't know what to do about one very scared rat

So I got my first pair of rats last Thursday. They are about 6 weeks old and neither were well socialised previous to me having them. One of them has settled in really well. He's quite happy to sit on the levels while we're there, eating his food and having a sniff. When I take him out, he struggles...

Re: Another first time rat owner with a million food questio

  Ohhh, believe me I can be quite strict when it comes to diet. Just ask my dogs  I've also brought a little set of scales to weigh their food and also to keep an eye on their weight haha. My parents think I'm being too fussy

Haha yeah it's been getting more and clear that it isn't an exact science. Thank you though because that still gives me lots to go on :)

Re: Another first time rat owner with a million food questio

Ok, so I've decided to go with 50:50 with RR no.11 and HBB from the start. I've brought some dried fresh water shrimps for extra protein (although some days I'll give eggs, chicken etc instead for variety). I was wondering just how much extra protein I should be putting in while they are still young...

Another first time rat owner with a million food questions

So I'm in the process of getting my first pair of rats and am in need of some guidance regarding diet. I've done a load of research but as you can imagine it's all a bit overwhelming and I obviously don't have the experience yet. So I've essentially got a butt load of questions and am pretty much lo...

Rat breeders in Cornwall?

Hi! I'm looking into gettng my first pair of rats, but being typical Cornwall, there is not a lot here including rat breeders. I've done a lot of searching on the internet but every bit of information I find on breeders is like 10 years old. So I figured I'd come to the 'source' as it were and see i...
