Echinacea for rats?

First of all, hello again! I've not been on this forum for a while, lost my password and got distracted and just forgot. Sorry! One of my girls has a sore, slightly swollen eye. She has a history of recurrant blocked tear duct in that eye, this time with a bit of swelling, I would say it looks infec...

Re: Sore eye advice please x

Thank you :dumbo: The vet actually inpressed me more this time, he used the dye and UV light to look for signs of injury (thankfully none) and said she has a blocked tear duct that looks a little infected. She has the fucidic acid gel eye ointment for 10 days which does seem to be making a differenc...

Sore eye advice please x

Hi, Willow has got one eye that has had a lot of porphyrin discharge persistently for a few days. I waited a bit to see if it would sort itself out but several days later it is persisting so we have a vet appt this afternoon. The eye itself looks clear and bright, no cloudiness and she isn't squinti...

Changing my password?

Hi, I think I'm just being thick! I've had to reset my password again as my phone updated and deleted saved passwords. I'm trying to change it to something I remember but can't work out how to do so? I've clicked on everything clickable in the user CP but no password change option, can someone pleas...

Re: Some advice please? Lethargic, resp issues?

Poor thing, it's such a worry! You'd be better syringing the Baytril directly into her mouth, that way you know shes's getting it. If you're not sure how ask the vet to show you, but basically hold her firmly around the shoulders with one hand, bracing her bottom against you so she can't back up and...

Re: Two or three story cages?

Most people don't use the stairs anyway, unless rats are very very elderly/disabled :) they do much better and stay fitter with an open layout involving ropes and interesting things to climb. We have the SRS but don't use the stairs or platforms!

Re: Hi im new! advice for new rat needed please, sloppy poop

I can't even put into words how worth it getting rats from a good breeder is, very much worth waiting and traveling for. Not only are they healthy and beautiful, my two girls from Nelly just have the most amazing temperament and are so cuddly! My older girls are a mix of those bred in someone's home...

Re: Hi im new! advice for new rat needed please, sloppy poop

Poor thing :-( I'm sorry you're going through this. As for there being no breeders near you, rats travel really well by train or car; I had a 3 hour train journey each way to pick up my last babies! Which is a bit excessive, I grant you but can be done. Also rat people are generally very nice and wi...

Re: 8-10 Wk. Old Pregnant Rat

Oh bless you, pet shops are notorious for making mistakes like this. Well done for researching and trying to do your best for her, there is a wealth of information on here and experienced breeders who I'm sure will be able to help you with all the practicalities. You are going to need a couple more ...

Re: How much mix to buy for new rats?

My girls have around 12-15g of dry mix daily per rat, if that helps. Any more than that and they pile on weight very quickly!

Re: Worried about my rat.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's obvious that you love your rats, so please take the poorly one to the vet! Especially as his cage mate has already died. I understand that not everyone has money to spare for the vet, what I'm going to say now might sound harsh but it needs to be said; please do not buy...

Re: dull coats?

What is their weight like? Mine are on 15g of feed per rat per day and still managing to be a bit chubby  If there's food left over then you could probably do with cutting down a little.

Re: Why do you use FR?

I love this forum as it is full of very knowledgable people who are happy to give advice which I know I can trust. I have learned a huge amount just by hanging around on here reading posts, it's like an intensive course on rat keeping. I like that there is quite a strict ethical policy on here that ...

Re: Bulletin about FR on Social Media

To make a community where people can discuss things, you'll need a group rather than a page. On a page, only admins can post and anything posted by anyone else can't be read by anyone but admins, so it's more like a bulletin board for making announcements. You can have an open group where anyone can...
