Re: Any ideas?
He's not looking well at all. He's on the floor of the cage, with his head down and liquid slowly dripping from his nose.
Typically this has happened on the day that I'm moving house, but once we are all installed I'll make him some wet high calorie food.
Poor lad.

It's definitely coming from his nose, as you can see it coming out. All wees and poos in cage seem normal and usual amount.

Any ideas?
20 month old buck, has lost 40g quickly and is suddenly looking v old. This has occurred in days, not weeks. Lots of very light porphyrin tinged fluid coming from his nose. Was eating fine yesterday, but not really interested today. Been to vets. Lungs are both totally clear. No difficulty breathing...

Re: Is this mix any good?shunamite style!
To be honest, if you're only getting a couple of rats, I'd recommend mixing a complete RatRations mix with the HBB. That way you are getting much more variety including small seeds and dried veg. Their standard mix contains Whole barley, flaked barley, flaked maize, groats, flaked peas, paddy rice, ...

J R Farm Hamster Feast looks ok and is on offer at zooplus. It doesn't say if it contains calcium, copper, magnesium etc though. Protein is 12.9%

Re: Current base mix options
I think I used Alpha Herbal Delux, but I used to buy a big sack of it. Food hunting is rubbish isn't it. The best commercial hamster food I can find seems to be Bunny Dream, but it's pretty expensive and I think the Syrian version has the dreaded alfalfa pellets.
Good luck C

Re: Current base mix options
I've used others in the past, but I like HBB as its more barley based. Plus it's pretty easy to get rid of the banana pieces when feeding the fatties. I've looked in a few pet shops round here, to avoid paying postage. However both the rabbit and rat food looks a bit grim. Once this bags gone, I thi...

Re: How long to use up an open jar of baby food?
On the rare occasion I buy it, I tend to put teaspoon full dollops on a plastic chopping board, then freeze. Once frozen, you can flip them off, put them in a bag and defrost when needed. The Ella's Kitchen pouches are the best, as you can sort of pipe it out into little swirls! Btw rescue I follow ...

Re: should i try bathing my rats?
I find anything made of fleece stinks really quickly. Could perhaps be the culprit. Do you use it instead of substrate?

Re: Is this mix ok?...
True. I've simplified by having 50% RR complete mix, then the other half shunamite type with HBB. That way I know they are getting a good variety of everything and some of my vits and mins are covered by the HBB.

Re: Is this mix ok?...
That was so much better than my reply! Yes, I add a little bran to make my fatty feel full without the calories. Once I've used up this batch, I won't buy any more, as new diet has been successful. Beri, would occasional nuts in shells and sardines help? Must admit, hemp/linseed has made my rats coa...
