substrate, bottom of cage, advice please

Just wondering what people use for the bottom of the cage. I have been using Finacard but can't seem to get hold of it. Is there anything else that people can recommend? I looked at some of the Pets At Home offerings, are any of them any good?
Thank you

Older female wanted

I’m left with one female after her friend was pts. She is about two years old. I’m looking for a friend for her, preferably an older lady like herself who is also lonely. Fairly urgent, don’t want her left alone too long, hopefully can solve the problem for another lady too, if there’s one out there...

Re: how many should live together?

My cage is the same as this one:

I had three in it originally but it looked a bit crowded to me.

Thanks for the advice.

how many should live together?

I have one female about 23 months old now living all alone since her two sisters died, so I need to find her a companion. I was going to look for another lone female so that I could save two rats from being lonely but someone suggested that female rats do much better in groups rather than pairs and ...

3 Sisters - 2 fat, one terribly thin

These three ladies are about 18 months old and I've had them since they were very little. One of them is really really skinny and I would almost use the terms 'boney' and 'slight'. There is a massive difference between her and her sisters who are larger and have much more flesh on them. I pick her u...

Re: Filling food bowl with bedding

Thanks for the reply, I hadn't thought of that. To be honest, I don't really chuck much away, I uncover it and weed out the litter and bedding as I hate to waste food - but I will try everything you have suggested, thanks.

Filling food bowl with bedding

Its not really a big problem, I'm just interested in the reason for doing it - and its slightly annoying cos it causes waste! My three ladies use cardboard bedding and they like to fill their food bowls with it, sometimes completely covering the bowl! I guess its behaviour they'd use in the wild, th...
