Re: Adorable, white female rat I'm scared might be dying(URG

Thirded ^ This is very unfortunate and sad for the poor girl. Despite how awful this situation is, I hope you have learnt that breeding isn't always a straightforward act and can carry risks, if you are not sure what you're doing.

Re: Vaginal Bleeding

She'll need ABs if it is a UTI. Just double check that it *is* from the urethra, they're fairly close together. I just had a doe bleed from the same general area (turned out to be vagina, which resulted in an emergency spay) and it turned out to be pyometra.

Re: Dry mix, anything missing?

Rataholic, you can get pumpkin seeds from ratrations.com. Jess, I thought the complete ready mixes already contained cereals. Where do you get your dried fish from? I like the idea of using a mix of dog kibble and dried fish. My idea of the mix (please correct me if I'm wrong): HBB RR mix (such as ...

Re: Rat's nails

They don't *need* to have their nails clipped, but if you find them a bit sharp then I reckon it's a good idea to just snip off the pointy part (don't cut the quick by accident - if you look carefully you can see a change in nail colour: just snip the white bit). I use small nail clippers (for human...

Anthony! Can't remember his last name off the top of my head I'm afraid. I've seen one of the other guys too, but I like Anthony the best.

Re: Vets in Bolton

I go to Darley House in Farnworth, as I live locally. Only had a lump removal there for one of my girls, but the vet I saw did a great job and I trust him, having been to him many times. Like with any surgery, there is always a small risk. I also hear there is a good vet in Preston that a number of ...

Re: Small lump on back

It looks like the cyst that one of my rats had - although I'm not experienced enough in rat health and I couldn't confirm it is that for definite. A friend (who is a doctor and a rat owner/breeder) did a sterile needle "pop" and gentle squeeze on the rat for me while I watched. Looked like toothpast...

My girls have eaten parts of my shoes, the wall, and sequins before; they're usually in mega big trouble because of this!

Re: Rat rooms

Mine live in-between in our hallway - we have an open plan hall, kitchen and living room. I like them there because somebody is always walking past the cage, so it allows for loads of interaction! But I chose 'Rat Room' option, because we have a spare bedroom which is dedicated to the rats - set up ...

Re: Rat Ritz

I can highly recommend the Rat Ritz for all their hard work. I couldn't keep two boys last year after bringing home a rat from a pet shop who was pregnant, and these two boys went to live at Rat Ritz as I did not have the facilities at that time to offer them the best care. Having visited the sanctu...

Re: Recommended vets on Isle of Man

OH used to go to http://www.milanvets.co.uk when they had a dog (so perhaps not helpful), apparently the service was always very good. I had a quick look at the website and didn't see much about small animals, but always worth calling to check. They used Jane Callow as well, but I have limited knowl...

Re: Recommended vets on Isle of Man

I'll ask my OH, he's from the IoM. Whereabouts on the island are you based?

Are you really manx..? ;) First time I've heard a manx person not refer to rats as longtails :)
