Re: Unwell ratty - help!

So sorry to hear this :( did the vet say whether it was a respiratory problem or not? What antibiotic have they given her? Is she managing to eat solids? Is her balance off? Is she able to hold things in her front paws? Is this vet your normal vet or was it an emergency one? It may be worth looking ...

Re: Unwell ratty - help!

It depends, whatever the solution, it will be with medication prescribed by a vet. If she is losing weight and not eating I would get her in ASAP as weightloss and lack of appetite are strong indicators of a rat going downhill. Has she been getting any fluids?

Re: Rat names for boys

Boys names so far are Nimh and Caspian. Always wanted to call one Nicodemus (nico for short) but my boys are such drama queens the name really didn't suit them

Re: Where Can I purchase Harlan Teklad in the UK/ Use as a s

I use Cheerios or shreddies as an occasional (pretty much once every month or two) treat if I happen to have some in the cupboard. Would you suggest stopping that completely, Hanlou? This is why I prefer to use a complete mix and supplement with DR3 and fresh fruit and veg. Trying to work out percen...

Re: Where Can I purchase Harlan Teklad in the UK/ Use as a s

I can't really comment on base mixes as I personally use the complete mixes but for the supplements I use daily rat 3 which I measure and put on their fresh food. Calcivet is also a good one http://www.ratrations.com/calcivet-liqu ... p-436.html which can be added to their water or food :)

Re: Where Can I purchase Harlan Teklad in the UK/ Use as a s

From what i have read about it, it is primarily a US product used for lab rats. Although it has all the right things in it, pellets like that are very boring for rats and doesn't give them any enrichment. If you don't want to make your own mixes i would recommend the rat rations website for getting ...

Re: Sneezing rats

Vitamins and supplimntes can be added to the water to boost their immune system but it's no replacement for vet treatment. Some vets try to prescribe antibiotics which can be added to their water but it isn't really recommended as you cannot tell how much they are taking and whether each rat has tak...

Re: Struggling to eat

Hmmm its frustrating when you have to push a vet for more detail or answers :?

Hopefully that's the end of the issue though, and at least you now know the source if he does struggle to eat again :) bless his little cottons.

Re: Increased breathing rate

Could he be too hot? If he is an oldie, regulating temperatures would be more of an effort, and would account for a higher breathing rate
