Re: Rat dying?

No he wasn't, but it was such a slow steady decline and he was really struggling the last couple of days. He wouldn't eat or drink much and he got very stressed if I tried to give him water, food or his medicine mixed in stuff. Anyway, I am at peace with the decision and I do believe it was for the ...

Re: Rat dying?

Thought I'd let you know that we had Alfread put to sleep last week. The vet said that he had myco, he was given AB's but he didn't get better only worse, to the point where both my partner and I agreed that he should not suffer. The vet gassed him first and then did the injection which I'm very hap...

Re: Rat dying?

Thanks for your advice. He has been eating the yummy food and has perked up quite a bit. We are here on business, not pleasure so it's a bit of a difficult situation. He is going to the vet first thing Tuesday. He is doing fine so I'm not worried as I was before.

Re: Rat dying?

Nope, no medication. He just had some soy porridge with seeds which he liked. Unfortunately my boyfriend forgot to bring most of the rat stuff, apart from the basics. Please don't think we are irresponsible rat owners, I would never let an animal suffer and if he gets worse we shall get him to a vet...

Re: Rat dying?

Yeah, it's hard as we are away at the moment and we don't know the area. I gave him some dark chocolate (chewed and spat out, gross I know) and he ate that. I know if i'd have been at home I could have seen this earlier, my boyfriend hasn't said anything on the phone, he did say he only noticed the ...

Rat dying?

For the past month or so I have noticed that Alfread has become much more withdrawn, just wanting to rest more on free range etc. I have been away for a week at my partners parents and he has just joined me today, rats in tow. I noticed straight away that Alfread has lost quite a bit of weight and i...

Re: clenched front paw

They are all back from the vets. The vet seems to think he has hurt his paw a bit, rather than PT as he is walking on it flat more, holding it up sometimes in a paw and forgetting to straighten out his fingers occasionally. He still bombs about and climbs really well. The wheezy boys have noroclav w...

Re: clenched front paw

They are all off to the vets tomorrow for their breathing so his paw can get checked out then. I can't go unfortunately so my partner is taking them, I'll let him know about the possibility of PT. It's hard saying things to vets when they are supposed to know! Are there any other symptoms associated...

Re: clenched front paw

yeah, when I did a search of the forum it came up with PT. This morning he seemed to be walking on it a bit flatter, he is holding it up so I think it may be a bit painful, but he does walk on it. Poor Alfie. I shall be keeping a close eye on him. Everything happens at once! Thanks for your replies

clenched front paw

I have just noticed this evening that one of our boys is clenching his front paw and walking on it in a fist, and slightly turned inwards instead of flat. He doesn't seem to be in pain, I prodded him about a bit to have a look. I gave him various food stuffs to make sure he could still hold food and...

Re: stressed breathing

He is good thanks. He does seem to be quite a worried rat that gets stressed easily, but I'm hoping that will settle. He has had a lot of change since coming to us and meeting new rats, that's something he hasn't had to do as he has only lived with 1 other rat his whole life. His breathing has been ...

stressed breathing

Last night Alfread got a bit stressed out when Eli started on him. His breathing when really weird, like massive odd sneezes, loud and congested. I gave him a bit of dark chocolate and let him calm down. Once he was calm he was fine, and this morning he is fine. His chest sounds clear. Is this a sig...
