Re: Removed glue, care needed?

Seems fine (thanks for asking!) - closing up but still a little open. I'm keeping it washed and I'll take him for his post op check on Monday, but I expect it'll be alreet by then :)

Re: Removed glue, care needed?

Thanks, nice to hear another opinion, is rubbish worrying alone! I think I'll keep him in the carrier with his bro tonight, much as they'll hate it, but I'd rather that was sat on vetbed than cardboard in the cage. Hope nothing falls out overnight

Removed glue, care needed?

This is where Big Squee's testicles were until this afternoon. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8366/8516223753_253811e1ec.jpg He seems to have chewed the glue off and it's 'open'. Can someone clarify for me whether this is a 'run screaming to the emergency vet' situation, or a 'it'll magically heal ov...

Re: Sore snout?

Vari was put to sleep this lunchtime. Thanks everyone for your help and advice, the steroids really did improve his last week or so.

Re: Sore snout?

Thanks both :) I know it's not a 'cure' but I'm so happy to see him feeling better! Really appreciate the advice - right away the vet knew I was going to ask for steroids, but I might not have thought to go back so soon if I hadn't known there was something that might help :) Thank you! :hearts:

Throat swelling is gone :)

Apologies for the blur, apparently midday is an excellent time to be overexcited.

Re: Sore snout?

Oh did they! I wasn't expecting anything that dramatic but it would be just awesome if that happened :) He does struggle with it a bit sometimes, so for quality of life that's one I'd really like to improve. Crosses everything! :D (and thank you!)

Re: Sore snout?

Sorry to hear all your stories of lymphoma, it's a horrible thing :( Vari got his pred today. The vet did warn that it wouldn't be too clever for him because of his already compromised immune system, but I explained that he's already having the occasional difficulty swallowing, so we're on a very sh...

Re: Sore snout?

Just found the rat health guide on (cutaneous) lymphoma and the images in the first case history, though a lot more dramatic than Vari, are very familiar. That would explain his skin, his throat, and the odd way he uses his back legs (not quite typical of hld - paralysis would do it!). Poor fella.

Re: Sore snout?

Thanks guys :) Steroids! I shall mention that to the vet next time - interesting about the throat swelling too, thank you. Continuing with the flagyl and clavasptin (now I have it!) for now though I don't know if it will help clear his infected head... Left side is definitely abscessing again and ev...

Re: Sore snout?

Thanks, Laurali - I do feel for him, cos he was always a looker and now I think people take a step back when they see him! Not that he cares, I'm sure :) But it is nice to hear something positive about him from someone who isn't used to him! His nose is no better after a week on Flagyl - the other m...

Re: Sore snout?

Thank you :) I hope we can make him comfortable. He's got a lot of fight in him - if he seemed poorly there'd be no question of keeping him going, the state he's in, but even the vet agrees that he's bright and happy. Awkward wee soul :)

Re: Finger bitten off

Thank you, I just wanted to check :) I had another rat lose a toe when they were in the carrier driving to my Mum's house one Christmas, and he had it all cleaned up and sorted by the time I found it! That's really the only reason I didn't totally freak out last night, because there was so much bloo...
