I prefer them for freerange as I'm a little paranoid that they may fold up on the rats if they manage to move them. I've got a shoelace holding my current one open as well, at least until it gets removed by the rats.

You're right, I've just logged in and they're nowhere to be seen. My guess is that PMs have been switched off and that means you can't see the old ones.

The number of times I've had rat pee in rat scratches over the past 11 years, I think if the rats have it then I've had it. Also, how do you get the piles of bedding out from under the cages without vacuuming or sweeping it? I'm planning to carry on as normal, and am now waiting until the testing is...
I've had rats lose a finger before and I didn't even notice until after they'd healed (hangs head in shame  ). But it doesn't seem to be a big problem to them, and if your lad has already had metacam and is on antibiotics then he's probably not even feeling it and isn't likely to get any infec...

If they have hind leg weakness then sometimes their feet start to curl up so they walk on the knuckle, called knuckling under. That's what I'd think of if I were asked the question.

It does sound like an infection, but I'd check for carbon monoxide and make sure there are no house plants in reach too. You never know. I hope you have no more losses. x
This is a different take on the rat pouch, used to carry your rats with you. It takes its name from sling + pouch. My husband wanted me to call it the rash (rat sash), but I vetoed that one! http://www.rattycorner.com/funstuff/slouch/slingfin.jpg Materials Fleece lining fabric at least 65cm x 80cm O...

I've had 116 past rats and had 9 unexplained deaths, one at 14 months, one at 20 months, and the other 7 were over two years old and aging but not ill as such.
I saw this once a couple of years ago. The abscess has probably meant that he's been biting off centre so his teeth have worn down crookedly. With luck, getting them trimmed back level again will help him to start biting straight again once the abscess is sorted.
You will need: 10mm spanner Phillips screwdriver (ETA - Am told by OH that it's a Posidrive screwdriver needed, not a Phillips. :D) A couple of hours Cable ties if using as two separate cages Possibly a soft hammer Possibly a metal file 1. I've been planning to move the ratties up into my daughter Ginnie's room ever since she moved into her own flat, and finally got them up there in the past few weeks. Here's a few photos. I got a couple more Explorers and put them together as triples, but with a single cage at the bottom of each one ...
