Re: Excited Sneezes?

They can sneeze for the same reason as us. We don't always sneeze because we are ill, little bits of dust irritating our noses can cause us to sneeze, the same as it does for them. From the sounds of it here, there's nothing to worry about.. occasional sneezing is okay. :) Thank you, I feel less of...

Re: Scab came off and is bleeding, now what?!

Yea leave her with her sisters, no need for the vets either. Rats heal at a phenomenal rate and as long as there's no sign of infection just keep it clean and keep an eye on it. I've had rats with inch long cuts heal within 24 hours on their own. :)

Re: Fleece vs Shredded Paper

Yea, I tried fleece for a month or so but found shredded card type beddings to be the best for them activity wise, scattered food, nesting etc and for me odour wise... cardboard definitely keeps smells down better than fleece :)

Re: Rat's nails

I leave all of my rats nails, they never grow long but can get sharp so i sometimes file the tips a bit to blunt them down. One of my girls even chews her own nails short. My rats were never interested in calcium/vitamin blocks but because i feed ratrations they get the recommended supplements from ...

Re: Advice on mycoform t really concerned

A quick search has brought up many threads saying not to use it. It has no benefit to the rats when drank and is apparently made of a mixture of strong smelling oils we often use for ourselves to inhale, but inhaled in rats can affect them respiratory wise, not help them. Also the fact that pine oil...

Re: The end of my rat's tail looks odd

I'd just clean it up a bit now and then leave it alone but keep an eye out for any signs of infection.

Hope the tail sorts itself out :) sounds like a good plan though.

Re: The end of my rat's tail looks odd

I could be really wrong, it could be totally too quick for it to start becoming necrotic. I haven't seen it before, I wouldn't start panicking just yet :) You aren't a bad rat mum, you've taken them to the vets and you're trying to find out what's wrong. You're doing all you can. Often things do pop...

Re: The end of my rat's tail looks odd

It looks like there is no circulation at the end of the tail and that it's slowly dying... I'd go to the vet again.

Re: Estimating the age of a buck

Some people count pet ages weirdly, say he was born on the 31st of December 2011, and they gave him up on the 1st of January 2014, then he's lived in the years: 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, that makes him 4 years old right :? (i see that a lot on an american based rat group on facebook, loads ...

Re: what to do with old rat?

It might be worth making a new thread just about this second rat, someone with more experience than me may be able to advise you. Include info about the vet visit and the fact he couldn't hear anything on the chest and include in the title "side sucking" so that people know what it's about
