Re: I think we might be getting close to our first loss
Just wanted to update and thanks on this thread. It turned out that Columbus probably had "something" neurological (urine and bloods didn't show anything especially untoward kidneywise although he was dehydrating quickly so we needed to make sure he had lots of fluids and wet foods). We had best par...

Re: I think we might be getting close to our first loss
Thanks all for the replies. Neotoma - I'm not sure now that they did test kidney function, that's very interesting to know (If i'm honest I thought it was just all signs of him getting older). I'm going to phone the vets today and run through with them what the urine dippy thing they did covered. Th...

I think we might be getting close to our first loss
And man it's hard to know what to do for the best. (Sorry if this is a bit long, just kind of want to put things down somewhere). We think Columbus is roughly 22 monthish - he was a P@H rat, and according to the staff him and his brother had been there "a bit longer than normal", so this is a real g...

Re: Prescribed Prednicare
I think it's prednisolone yes. Riff is on Pred periodically for his rubbish lungs, and it really helps him when he's dosed up - depending on doseage it normally days 1-3 days for it to help but it really does improve his breathing no end

Last night's offer was: Cauli, broccoli, leek, carrot, some chicken scraps, and a chicken thigh bone each.
Tonight will be the same, but instead of the bone they'll get some rice and some peas

Re: Rat Specialist
We use Alan at Village Vets, Woolton. Expensive but very good. He is a small furry and exotic specialist but importantly is also keen to listen to you and what you think. You just need to get used to the fact he is very good with animals but not necessarily a people person ! Before Village Ve...

Re: Sneezing rat
Is there anything environmental that could be making him sneeze? Maybe a dusty batch of substrate? Flowers in the room, something like that? Personally I wouldn't worry too much if he has no other symptoms at all, and would just keep an eye. Of our 4, Columbus is prone to sneezes for the slightest o...

We're working through bags of frozen stirfry at the moment, so beansprouts, cabbage, mushrooms, pak choi, baby sweetcorn, mange tout, red onion and carrot.
Plus they got some chicken thigh bones and a handful of popcorn
