Boy intro trouble

Hi everyone, I wasn't expecting to have any trouble with this one so am a little bit gutted. I've always done intros starting with a small, empty hamster cage. (I have gone from hamster cage, to carrier on one occasion when I had an unsocialised boy not working things out with the alpha, it worked a...

Re: Calpol for bite

Yes he's fine thank you. Still quite a gash but a clean cut fortunately. I'm just using hibiscrub on it.. and waiting for the derma gel someone suggested too. Someone else on fb helped me out with the calpol but I'm not sure he needs any this morning.

Re: Calpol for bite

I take it you mean a bite on one of your rats rather than on your hand :? I have used calpol before in emergencies, make sure it is the baby one. Unless it is a nasty bite, I normally wouldn't bother with calpol/pain meds. Hopefully somebody more experienced will come along soon. Yes definately on ...

Calpol for bite

We have a bite on our hands and I'm worried about the poor lad in pain. Co-op is just around the corner and theres enough time to nip before it closes! I've found the link for Calpol (I think) but my heads all over the place at the minute, would anyone be able to tell me the dosage and how often ple...

Sebaceous cyst

Scooby's cyst has gotten quite large and up until very recently was rock solid and wouldn't budge. Now it has a hole in the top and is absolutely ready to come out after tester squeezing! Can I go ahead without having to worry about anything? Will I need to do anything to it? I've read that they wil...

Re: Respy boys... Still.

I couldn't really tell from your post, if you'd actually taken the rats to the new vet or just asked them for the meds. I don't think there's many, uf any vets that would give you meds without actually seeing the animals. I don't know what else you've tried, but doxycycline is a good next step, eit...

Respy boys... Still.

I can finally get to the vets this weekend. I have one in mind that I haven't been to around here.. But I just don't know what to do anymore. Just to back track the history, my boys have been respy forever. I've tried a long list of things, the next one I was hoping to try was Marbocyl. I'd found so...

Re: New baby died

No it's obvious he was just trying to cover their backs. He then gave them three boys with a larger cage when they went back, apologising profusely of course. Only to find out when she got home that two were girls, one definately pregnant *slaps head*. They've got homes now though, someone who has b...

Re: New baby died

How old are they? If that is the suspected CoD and the petshop breeds them themselves a vigorous complaint is in order - it might stop it happening again if you are lucky. I was thinking about ringing them anyway, I just wanted to know for myself! She said they were six weeks.. and the manager had ...

Re: Mix tips?

It all looks ok but depends on the percentages of it all. How much are you planning to give of everything? :)

Re: New baby died

It depends what the vetinary diagnosis was. If it is chest, then definitely. If they don't know what is up, then in this situation it could be sensible, but it is a judgement call for the vet. Thank you. As far as I know they didn't know what was up, they just said that was probably when she was dy...

Re: New baby died

I'd guess the most likely option is a virus, maybe causing secondary pneumonia - the twitching could just have been the end stage of oxygen deprivation, or the result of an infection. Pretty much all that can be done is oxygen, subQ fluids, and antibiotics, then hope. Heart problems, or another inb...
