Re: Microphthalmia
Hi Vix, That's good to hear. I've had Daphne for a while now, and she's had no problems with her wee eye so I don't foresee her having any. She's just got a squinty eye, so constantly looks grumpy on one side of her face. She's a darling! I've had kissy rats before, but Daphne will sit and lick for ...

Microphthalmia
I recently got a new girl with what appears to be microphthalmia in one eye. There's nothing apparently wrong with that eye. No discharge or anything nasty, she just has a small eye. I was wondering if anything bad could happen because of it, or is it just a cosmetic thing?

Re: Very fat doe, 15- 16 months old
Well fatty is still a little chubby, but she now looks like a real rat rather then a furry snowball. To be honest I probably won't let her lose too much more as I prefer my older rats to have a little extra in case of illness. The main thing is she's fairly firm now rather then just being fat all ov...

Re: How can I help a rat that is extremely obese?
I recently got a very fat girl. I have had to do almost nothing to get her to lose weight. A good diet and plenty of free range was all she needed to get down to a sensible kind of weight. That is what I would try first and see how far you get before deciding if you need to do anything else.

Well she's feeling more solid now, rather then flabby.

Re: Very fat doe, 15- 16 months old
Thank you guys
I've never owned a properly fat rat before. I've had some big girls, but they've always been able to move around properly. It just shocked me a bit. Hopefully living with the looneys will help

Re: Very fat doe, 15- 16 months old
She does have a wheel as the babies are wheel nuts, but she's really too fat to climb in it. She's too fat to climb the bars too. I don't think she could climb up the stairs even if she wanted too
And if I let her out for free range she sits about and begs for a cuddle.

Very fat doe, 15- 16 months old
Due to the death of her last cage mate, I now have a new girl. She is very sweet and has kissed 2 people in the few hours I've had her. The only problem is her size, she is so fat you can hardly see her legs when she walks. She is living with a pair of 4 month old girls so they'll probably help keep...

I don't know if you could afford to, but would the anti lump mix help? Even if it's just until your Galastop arrives.

Re: Lump burst?
It is a personal desision at the end of the day. I had Fern PTS because she had severe lung scarring and would never of survived an anaesthetic. She was also 26 months old, and she was an 'old' rat. If you feel your girl can survive the operation then I'd give it a go. The worst that will happen is ...

Re: Lump burst?
Something similar happened to Fern. I had her PTS as I read that once the skin ulcerates it doesn't heal and I felt it wasn't fair to keep her going with a large open wound on her tummy.
I hope your old lady is alright.

Re: How old nine months or younger?
One of my new girls is about 14 months old, and she's like a little mouse compared to the other 3. She doesn't look any older then 3 months :) Bella is a rescue, she was found abandoned in a box outside a church so she's probably not had the greatest start in life, going to intro her tomorrow to my ...
